Mahindra TUV500 (Mahindra TUV300 XL) spied testing in Chennai

Said to arrive after the Mahindra XUV500 Intelli-Hybrid.

Mahindra is working on a new Mahindra TUV300-based SUV that could serve as a replacement for some variants of the Mahindra Bolero. Codenamed 'Mahindra U108' and commonly referred to as 'Mahindra TUV500' and even 'Mahindra TUV300 XL', the future SUV was recently spied testing by IAB reader Muthu Narayan in Chennai.

The Mahindra TUV500 is a bigger version of the Mahindra TUV300 sub-compact SUV.

As evident in the spy shots, the Mahindra TUV500 is a bigger version of the Mahindra TUV300 sub-compact SUV. Extended and enlarged to accommodate an extra row of front-facing seats, the Mahindra TUV500 will measure over four metres in length. The front-facing third-row seats will make the TUV500 a much more appealing model than the TUV300 as they offer higher practicality than side-facing jump seats.

The Mahindra TUV500 was expected previously to get power from a more potent version of the 1.5-litre mHawk100 diesel engine from the TUV300, but as per a report released in January, Mahindra has planned the Scorpio's 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine for this model with a 5-speed manual transmission. The Mahindra Scorpio's 2.2-litre diesel engine and the Mahindra TUV300's 5-speed automated manual transmission aren't compatible together, and so, Mahindra could offer the Aisin-sourced 6-speed automatic unit.
