Update: Anything On Wheels has posted spy shots of a Mahindra U321 test mule that was spotted in Chennai earlier this week.

July 26, 2018 -

As the launch of the Mahindra U321 MPV nears, the camouflage worn by pre-production prototypes is thinning. The recent round of spy shots of the Toyota Innova/Maruti Ertiga rival, courtesy RushLane and Team-BHP, gives a closer look at the exterior of the MPV.

Latest spy images of the Mahindra U321 reveal the grille mesh pattern and headlight details.

The image of the front section of the U321 reveals the lower and upper grille mesh pattern. The upper grille features six tooth-like studs, which are likely to be chrome-finished in case of higher-end grades. The headlamp geometry reveals a double barrel setup with a projector unit and conventional reflector unit. Earlier spy shots have shown fog lamps and LED DRLs placed lower down in the bumper.

The rear features vertically stacked taillights, which may get LED signatures. An LED auxiliary stop lamp is positioned just above the windshield integrated into the bodywork. The test mules ride on 6-twin spoke alloy wheels. Other features visible in the spy shots are ORVMs with integrated turn indicators and a rear wash wiper.

Spy shots of the interior reveal that the top-end variant will have a touchscreen infotainment system, automatic climate control, a multifunction steering wheel and more. The instrument console appears to get lavender backlighting.

A newly developed 1.6 L diesel engine producing 125 hp and 305 Nm will power the Mahindra U321 MPV as per a report from December last year. No word on the specifications of the petrol engine or the transmission options yet.

Designed and developed at Mahindra's technical centre in Troy, Michigan, the Mahindra U321 is expected to go on sale by this festive season. Judging by the MPV's size and engine options, expect Mahindra to position it right between the Maruti Ertiga and the Toyota Innova in the INR 10-15 lakhs bracket.

The 7-seat Mahindra U321 will bridge the gap between the Maruti Ertiga and the Toyota Innova Crysta in the MPV segment.
