IAB reader Adeel Ahmad has spotted a black-coloured Mahindra XUV300 W8 (O) on its way to a dealership in Lucknow. The new small SUV will go on sale on 14 February, and its pre-bookings have been underway since 9 January.

The Mahindra XUV300 shares the X100 platform with the Ssangyong Tivoli and, in the words of the manufacturer, has a 'Cheetah-inspired' design.

The Mahindra XUV300 is its carmaker's fifth attempt at cracking the sub-4-metre SUV segment after a lacklustre sales performance by the Quanto, which was launched in 2012, and Mahindra TUV300 that went on sale in 2015. The new model will rival the Maruti Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSport, and Tata Nexon.

The Mahindra XUV300 will be sold with two turbocharged engine options - 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel. The former produces a maximum power of 81 kW (110 bhp) at 5,000 rpm and a peak torque of 200 Nm between 2,000-3,500 rpm, while the latter offers 85.8 kW (115 bhp) at 3,750 rpm and 300 Nm from 1,500-2,500 rpm. Both the powertrains will be paired with a 6-speed manual transmission. The new SUV offers an ARAI-certified fuel efficiency of 17 km/l with the petrol engine and 20 km/l with the diesel engine.

A highlight of the Mahindra XUV300 is its best-in-segment equipment list, with the top-spec W8(O) trim offering several high-end features like engine start-stop, auto-dimming IRVM, heated ORVMs, dual-zone climate control, front and rear parking sensors, seven airbags, Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), and electric sunroof. Dual front airbags, audio system with four speakers, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX, rear parking sensors, electric tailgate release, and multiple steering settings will be standard across the grades.

While the Mahindra XUV300 will be launched with a 6-speed manual transmission on both petrol and diesel engine variants, an AMT is expected to be introduced at a later stage.

The Mahindra XUV300 is 1,821 mm wide, which makes it the widest offering in the segment. To put things in perspective, the Maruti Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSport, and Tata Nexon are 1,790 mm, 1,765 mm, and 1,811 mm wide, respectively. Even the Hyundai Creta, which belongs to a higher segment, measures 1,780 mm. The new model has a boot space of 265-litre and a ground clearance of 180 mm.
