Mahindra XUV300 Electric to be launched in H2 2020

In November last year, Mahindra revealed that a pure electric variant of the XUV300 is planned for launch. In the latest, the company has confirmed that its launch will take place in the second half of 2020.

Like Nissan, Hyundai and Renault, Mahindra Electric wants to launch its new-age EV with two battery pack options. IAB’s automotive illustrator Shoeb Kalania has created a rendering of the zero-emission XUV300.

The confirmation comes directly from Dr. Pawan Goenka, MD, Mahindra & Mahindra. At the XUV300 launch today, he said: "Electric variant of this, which we have codenamed S210, is currently being developed and we expect to launch it in the second half of calendar year 2020."

The Mahindra XUV300 Electric (codename: Mahindra S210) will arrive as the first of the next generation electric vehicles from Mahindra Electric. Like Nissan, Hyundai and Renault, Mahindra Electric wants to launch its new-age EV with two different battery packs for targeting price-concerned and range-concerned customers both.

“We will probably do two versions – one will be more of an object of desire with more kWh, one will be more of an object of utility, perhaps for more of commuting experience,” Dr. Goenka said at the name revealing event of the Mahindra XUV300.

Goenka didn't spell out the battery pack capacities but said: “This will be in a higher kWh than what we are currently doing. Currently, we are in 21 kWh in Verito EV and this will be higher.”

The Mahindra XUV300 Electric in our rendering has unique styling cues to set itself apart. Teal blue accents, distinctive, blue “X” graphics on the sides, more aerodynamic alloy wheels, blue LED DRL connecting the headlamps and fog lamps are reminders that it is the eco-friendly SUV.

The upper grille and lower grille are gone, of course, for there’s no engine under the hood requiring cooling. The closed-off upper grille and lower grille both have a different pattern, and there’s a small +ME logo on the front fender to let onlookers know this is a Mahindra Electric model.

The Mahindra XUV300 Electric will compete with the Hyundai Styx Electric that could arrive in 2021.
