Maruti Suzuki has stopped producing the Alto 800, says a new report from GaadiWaadi.com. The company had launched the current generation model in October 2012.

Maruti Suzuki had launched the current generation model in October 2012.

The Maruti Alto range comprises an 800 variant and a K10 variant. Together, they make Maruti Alto one of the best-selling models in India. In fact, this model had topped the annual sales chart for 14 years consecutively, and it was only in 2018 that the Maruti Dzire dethroned it. The report suggests that no replacement for the 800 variant is planned.

The Maruti Alto K10 is also nearing its discontinuation. Citing undisclosed sources, the report says that the replacement for this model, which will evolve from the Maruti Future-S Concept, will reach the showrooms around late June or early July. Until now, it was said that this model, codenamed ‘Maruti Y1K’, is due in the fourth quarter of this calendar year.

The Maruti Y1K will come with the K10B 1.0-litre naturally aspirated three-cylinder petrol engine carried over from its predecessor but in an upgraded form. This BS-IV compliant engine, in the same tuning (68 PS/90 Nm), powers the Maruti WagonR and Maruti Celerio as well. There’s no word on specifications of the upgraded engine. As in the Maruti Alto K10, transmission choices will include 5-speed manual and 5-speed automated manual.

Maruti Suzuki does not plan to renew the Alto 800 or replace it with a new model. The Alto K10 will be replaced by a new SUV-styled model codenamed 'Maruti Y1K', though.

The Maruti Y1K will compete with the Renault Kwid as well as the Datsun GO. The Maruti WagonR will continue handling the competition from the pricier entry-level cars like the Tata Tiago and Hyundai Santro. Road testing of the Maruti Y1K has commenced.
