Maruti Alto 2017 sales cross 1 lakh units in India

The Maruti Alto ranked number one in sales last fiscal, is putting on an impressive show this calendar year. Maruti Suzuki has sold 1.07 lakh units of the Maruti Alto during January-May 2017.

During the first five months of 2017, the Maruti Alto registered monthly sales of 22,998, 19,524, 18,868, 22,549 and 23,618 units in ascending order.

The Renault Kwid, having sold 6,924, 9,648, 10,296, 7,956 and 6,990 units in the same period (41,814 units) has steered up the competition in the entry segment, but Maruti Suzuki enjoys unmatched success as one of the oldest nameplates in its crop supported by a much bigger dealership and service network.

The Maruti Alto is available in two variants: Maruti Alto 800 and Maruti Alto K10. The Alto 800 is powered by the F8D 0.8-litre three-cylinder petrol engine that produces 35.3 kW (47.32 hp) at 6,000 rpm and 69 Nm of torque at 3,500 rpm. The Alto 800 has a CNG model too, in which the same engine develops 30.1 kW (40.35 hp) at 6,000 rpm and 60 Nm of torque at 6,000 rpm. A 5-speed manual transmission is standard. The fuel economy figure of the Alto 800 is 24.7 km/l (petrol)/33.44 km/kg (CNG).

The Maruti Alto K10 is powered by the K10B 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine that produces 68 PS (91.15 hp) at 6,000 rpm and 90 Nm of torque at 3,500 rpm. There's a CNG option here too, in which the same engine is tuned to develop 59 PS at 6,000 rpm and 78 Nm of torque in CNG mode. The petrol model has 5-speed manual and 5-speed automated manual as the transmission choices, while CNG model has a 5-speed manual transmission as standard. The fuel economy is rated at 24.07 km/l (petrol)/32.26 km/kg (CNG).

It is reported Maruti has begun ground work on the next-gen Alto codenamed Maruti Y1K.

The Maruti Alto 800 is priced from INR 2,46,752 (ex-showroom Delhi), while the Maruti Alto K10 starts at INR 3,27,090 (ex-showroom Delhi).
