Maruti Baleno diesel with SHVS mild-hybrid to launch next year

Will get FAME incentives of around INR 13,000.

According to a report on IB Times, Maruti-Suzuki will launch its SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki) mild-hybrid technology on the Maruti Baleno next year. The SHVS system will be offered on the diesel variant of the Baleno, the report adds.

Maruti Baleno Diesel Review
At present, the Maruti Baleno Diesel returns 27.39 km/l in the ARAI tests.

The 1.3-liter Fiat-sourced DDiS diesel engine on the Baleno is already offered with the SHVS system on the Maruti Ertiga and Maruti Ciaz. Apart from fuel efficiency benefits, these models also qualify for the government of India's FAME policy, and get a subsidy of INR 13,000, which is passed wholly to customers. The Baleno SHVS would also receive such a subsidy.

Currently, the Baleno diesel claims an ARAI-rated fuel efficiency of 27.39 km/l, but with the mild-hybrid system, fuel efficiency could increase by around 10 percent. The SHVS system combines an integrated starter generator, brake energy recovery system and an auto start-stop system.
