Maruti sold 10,004 units of the Baleno and 12,355 units of the Swift in May.

This can also be considered as proof that the Maruti Baleno has been cannibalizing the sales of the Maruti Swift, which was expected when the former was launched late last year with prices close to the Swift's. In February, March and April, the Maruti Swift maintained a gap of 8,587, 8,288, 6,099 units respectively  with the Maruti Baleno.

As Maruti has received well over 100,000 bookings for the Baleno, and is looking to increase its production further, it won't be too long before the Baleno comes even closer to the Swift. Some reasons for the Baleno's success are the standard ABS and dual airbags on all variants, contemporary and premium package, and a long list of features.
