Maruti Baleno, Maruti Vitara Brezza accounted for 15% of overall sales in May

Maruti sold 17,000 units of both models in May.

Maruti has sold 17,000 units of the Maruti Baleno and Maruti Vitara Brezza in the month of May, thus accounting for 15 percent of the overall sales. Note that these are provisional figures as Maruti haven't provided the sales figures of each model for the last month.

Thanks to the success of the Vitara Brezza, Maruti has witnessed a 144.2 percent growth in their range of utility vehicles compared to last May, which also include the Maruti S-Cross, Gypsy and Ertiga. In the hatchback range, the Baleno contributed to a 11 percent growth of the overall sales figures in the range as compared to last month.

Maruti now has to focus on matching the supply with the demand of the two vehicles in the market. Maruti has already received over 70,000 and 100,000 bookings for the Vitara Brezza and Baleno respectively, and waiting periods for the two models are already between 7-9 months.

Further adding stress to that is the stoppage of production at both its plants in Gurgaon and Manesar, due to a fire at a supplier’s factory, affecting the supply of components (in this case, an AC compressor).

However, sales of models in the entry level mini hatchback range, such as Maruti Alto and Wagon R, dipped by 5.6 percent to 33,105 units from the 35,062 units sold in May 2015. One of Maruti's best sellers, the Maruti Swift, is also experiencing dwindling demand in the market.
