Spied - Maruti Celerio diesel with 'DDiS' badge spotted

Likely to become India's most fuel efficient car.

GaadiWaadi has posted an image of a production-ready Maruti Celerio diesel with the DDiS badge on the fender. This bolsters claims an earlier report made when it said that the Celerio diesel will launch during this financial year.

The Celerio diesel will use a 0.8L unit.

The Celerio is expected to be the first Maruti passenger vehicle to be powered by the company's first self developed diesel engine. This engine, according to reports, will displace 800 cc with a twin-cylinder arrangement and produce about 50 bhp. Thanks to its downsized nature, it will feature class-leading fuel economy and it certainly could be India's most fuel efficient car, taking the title away from the Maruti Ciaz.

Initially, the Celerio will come with a 5-speed manual transmission, though an automated manual transmission (AMT) could be offered later on. When introduced, the AMT-equipped Celerio diesel will steal the title of the most affordable automatic diesel car from the Tata Zest.

The interior is expected to be carried over from the petrol variant.

Before or after the launch of the Celerio diesel, Maruti will introduce the Y9T LCV, which will be the second product to use the new 0.8L diesel engine.

Expected Price: INR 4.7-5.7 lakhs, ex-Showroom
