Maruti Celerio diesel, ZXi AMT, taxi variant lined up for launch - Report
Maruti has big plans for the Celerio, which is currently available only with a petrol engine. The following are the new variants that will roll out on the small car in the coming weeks/months.
Maruti Celerio ZXi AMT
The AMT (automated manual transmission) system on the Celerio has proven to be a hit with buyers as it brings the convenience of the automatic transmission at a lower price point. The Celerio is available with the AMT only in the base LXi and VXi trims, which are devoid of safety features like airbags and ABS. Maruti aims to address this with a new range-topping ZXi AMT variant.
Production of the ZXi AMT has already commenced, and a launch is expected this month. Apart from offering dual-front airbags and ABS, this variant will be equipped with a 2-DIN music system with steering mounted controls.
Maruti Celerio Diesel
Production of the Celerio diesel too is underway at Maruti's Manesar plant. Reported to be powered by a Suzuki-developed 0.8-liter two-cylinder diesel engine, the Celerio diesel is expected to set the benchmark for fuel efficiency.
Maruti Celerio Taxi
Team-BHP reports that Maruti is also planning a variant on the Celerio to be used by fleet and taxi operators exclusively, much like the Dzire Tour. Maruti could offer it on the forthcoming diesel variant, or on the CNG version of the Celerio.
The taxi variant of the Celerio could prove to be a popular model with new-age cab operators like Ola and Uber, Maruti hopes.
