Sales of the Maruti Celerio cross the 1 lakh mark - IAB Report

Increased Maruti's share in the segment by 10 percent.

Launched in February 2014 at the Auto Expo, domestic sales of the Maruti Celerio have crossed the 100,000 mark, Maruti Suzuki announced.

The most recent introduction was the Celerio diesel, which debuts Suzuki's first diesel engine.

The Celerio is credited as being the first passenger vehicle to come with an automated manual transmission (AMT). Launched first on the LXi and VXi variant, a ZXi trim with the AMT was introduced in May this year.

The Celerio also debuted Suzuki's first self-developed diesel engine, an 800 cc twin-cylinder motor giving it an industry-leading efficiency of 27.62 km/l. The hatchback can now be had in petrol, diesel and CNG powertrains with manual and AMT (only on petrol) gearboxes.

According to Mr. RS Kalsi, Executive Director, Marketing and Sales, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, within a year of its launch Maruti Suzuki’s share in the lower hatchback has shot up to 71 percent from 61 percent.

The Celerio diesel has an industry leading efficiency of 27.62 km/l.

The Celerio replaced the A-Star in the Indian market, and the Suzuki Alto (Celerio) in international markets. While the previous generation Suzuki Alto (A-Star) for Europe was exported from India, the Celerio for Europe is exported from Suzuki's Thai manufacturing plant.

The Celerio is priced between INR 3.9-5 lakhs for the petrol variants and between INR 4.65-5.71 lakhs for the diesel variants, ex-Showroom, New Delhi.
