Maruti Ciaz diesel SHVS (mild hybrid) arrives at dealership - Spied

Will feature a brake energy recuperation system.

What could be a surprising move from Maruti, the company will soon launch a mild hybrid version of the Maruti Ciaz diesel, which has been spotted at a dealership prior to its launch in mid-August.

The only indication that it's a Maruti Ciaz hybrid variant is the badging at the back.

The Maruti Ciaz SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle) variant is based on the conventional diesel-powered model, but features a brake energy recuperation system with an Integrated Starter Generator, which converts the kinetic energy of the rolling wheels into electricity for charging up the battery, and a start-stop system to boost mileage.

The engine under the hood is likely to be the tried-and-tested 1.3-liter DDiS diesel engine paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox. While the fuel consumption of the conventional diesel variant is rated at an industry-leading ARAI-certified 26.2 km/l, the SHVS variant is expected to up the ante by crossing the 30 km/L mark.

According to a leaked slideshow, Maruti will introduce a new mid-spec V(O) trim for the Ciaz petrol and diesel, which will be equipped with a "Safety package" that comprises of dual airbags, ABS with EBD, and seat belt pre-tensioner. A driver's airbag will be offered as standard across the whole range, while the "Safety package" will be offered for trims between V(O) and Z+.
