Maruti Ciaz Sports, Ertiga facelift to give higher mileage - Report

Mahindra is the only mass-market manufacturer to offer this tech at the moment.

Maruti plans on launching a sportier variant of the Ciaz with a bodykit and new alloy wheels, this year. The car maker is also planning facelifts for other models, one of which will be the Ertiga. According to a report on Business Standard, both these cars will be fitted with a Start-Stop system, in a bid to extract more kilometers to the liter.

The Maruti Ciaz diesel is the most fuel efficient car in India at 26.21 km/l.

Maruti's move to introduce the Start-Stop system on these cars comes on the back of an "ongoing and continuous process" to increase efficiency of their products. The Swift facelift which was launched in the last quarter of last year, saw an improvement of 10 percent in its fuel efficiency thanks to an engine retune, and a new engine oil for the diesel variant.

Well over 10 million Bosch Start-Stop motors have been produced, which when fitted, guarantee a 5-10 percent lower fuel consumption.

Currently, in the mass-market segment, Mahindra is the only car maker to offer the Start-Stop system, with the Bolero and Scorpio. Mahindra terms it 'Micro Hybrid' technology. Meanwhile, in the two-wheeler segment, Hero Motocorp introduced Start-Stop technology on its Splendor last year. Typically a start-stop system is able to reduce fuel consumption by 5-10 percent.

The Maruti Ertiga facelift is reported to get an AMT variant as well.
