First mild hybrid in the family compact sedan segment.
After many spyshots and a leaked brochure, Maruti-Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has finally announced the launch of the Maruti Ciaz SHVS mild diesel hybrid in India today. It is the first family compact sedan in its segment to feature a mild hybrid system for increased fuel efficiency.
Prices for the Maruti Ciaz SHVS (Ex-Showroom Delhi) are given below:
- Maruti Ciaz VDi - INR 8,23,000
- Maruti Ciaz VDi(O) - INR 8,37,500
- Maruti Ciaz VDi+ - INR 8,81,500
- Maruti Ciaz ZDi - INR 9,52,500
- Maruti Ciaz ZDi+ - INR 10,17,500
The Maruti Ciaz SHVS diesel hybrid replaces the conventional Maruti Ciaz diesel model, but will continue to pack the same 1.3-liter DDiS diesel engine, which produces 88.4 hp and 200 Nm of torque. It is paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox only.
With the SHVS moniker, the Ciaz's diesel engine comes equipped with an ISG (Integrates Starter Generator), integrating features like a brake energy recovery system that converts kinetic energy of the rolling wheels (while decelerating) into current useful for charging up the battery, an auto start-stop system to boost mileage, and a torque assist function.
Thanks to the SHVS technology, Maruti has upped the fuel consumption figures from 26.21 km/L to 28.09 km/l (ARAI-certified), making the Maruti Ciaz SHVS the most fuel efficient sedan.
As for the exterior and interior, the Maruti Ciaz SHVS is identical to the conventional petrol model sold alongside it. The only difference in the exterior is the SHVS badge at the back, while the interior gets an updated instrument cluster and buttons for the SHVS features.
Maruti has also introduced a new mid-spec V(O) trim for the Ciaz petrol and SHVS diesel. It comes with dual airbags, ABS with EBD, and seat belt pre-tensioner as standard. A driver’s airbag will now be offered as standard across the whole range.
