Maruti Suzuki introduced the third generation Dzire in May last year. Both petrol and diesel variants of the Maruti Dzire were launched with an optional AGS transmission (AMT). As per the company, these variants account for 17% of the total retail sales of the compact sedan.

As per official figures, 17% of Maruti Dzire buyers opt for the AGS equipped variants.

The Maruti Dzire AGS variants employ a Magnetti Marelli sourced 5-speed AMT pairing with either the 1.2 L petrol engine or the 1.3 L diesel engine. At 22 km/l and 28.40 km/l respectively, both petrol and diesel variants have the same claimed overall fuel efficiency as their manual counterparts. The Maruti Dzire AMT is available in VXi/VDi, ZXi/ZDi, and ZXi+/ZDi+ grades.

Variant Price (Ex-showroom Delhi)
Dzire VXi AGS INR 6,90,999
Dzire ZXi AGS INR 7,52,999
Dzire ZXi+ AGS INR 8,42,999
Dzire VDi AGS INR 7,90,999
Dzire ZDi AGS INR 8,53,000
Dzire ZDi+ AGS INR 9,43,000

The Maruti Dzire AMT range starts at under INR 7 lakhs (petrol) and INR 8 lakhs (diesel). The AMT equipped grades cost INR 47,000 more than the comparable 5-speed manual equipped grade.

The "ease of driving to the customers with no compromise on fuel efficiency" seems to be the biggest draw of AGS equipped models like the Dzire. Models like the Celerio, which was the first Maruti product to be equipped with a 5-speed AGS transmission, and the Maruti Ignis have a higher percentage of sales coming from their automatic variants. These variants contribute 43% of the total retail sales of the Celerio and 18% of the total retail sales of the Ignis.

According to the latest figures issued by Maruti Suzuki, cumulative sales of AGS equipped vehicles, have crossed 3 lakh units. It took a little over 4 years for the company to achieve this feat. The first AGS equipped product came out in February 2014 in the form of the Maruti Celerio. Currently, this lineup also includes the Alto K10, Dzire, Swift, Ignis, Wagon R, and Vitara Brezza. With the increase in the number of AMT models and a shift in consumer preference towards cars with automatic transmissions.

Maruti offers both diesel and petrol variants of the Dzire AMT in three grades - VXi/VDi, ZXi/ZDi, and ZXi+/ZDi+.

Rivals of the Dzire AMT include Tata Tigor AMT, Tata Zest AMT (diesel only), Ford Aspire 1.5 AT (petrol only), Honda Amaze CVT, VW Ameo DSG (diesel only) and Hyundai Xcent AT (petrol only).
