Maruti Ignis snapped testing in India for the first time - Spied
Confirmed to launch during festive season 2016.
Seen here are the first spyshots of the Maruti Ignis testing on Indian roads, ahead of a launch confirmed to take place during the festive season period this year.
The Ignis had its Indian premiere last week at the Auto Expo 2016, by way of the Ignis concept, shown alongside the Maruti Baleno RS concept. Compared to the model sold in Japan, the Ignis concept featured a chrome-rich grille and roof rails, just two of the many tweaks planned by Maruti engineers specifically for the Indian market.
In the Japanese market, the Ignis is powered by a 1.25-liter four-cylinder DualJet engine capable of 91 PS and 118 Nm of torque, and assisted by the SHVS smart-hybrid system with a 3.1 PS DC synchronous motor. For the Indian market though, Maruti will have to use the tried-and-tested 1.2-liter K-Series engine, though the 1.0-liter BoosterJet turbocharged unit could also be considered.

At the tape, the Ignis measures 3,700 mm in length, 1,660 mm in width, 1,595 mm in height, 2435 mm in wheelbase and 180 mm in ground clearance. Based on the new generation platform by Suzuki, the "compact crossover" weighs a mere 880 kg in its fully-loaded 2WD JDM specification.
