Maruti outlines future plans in annual report; Focus on lightweight platform

Will introduce new platforms and mechanical updates to the product range.

Maruti Suzuki has released its annual report for 2015 - 2016, which includes a brief summary of plans that the Indo-Japanese manufacturer is working on for the future.

Product launches in the pipeline for this year include the Maruti Ignis and Baleno RS.

As expected, the company will introduce new models, full model changes and minor changes (facelift) to existing products in the future. Although they haven't revealed the complete pipeline, the new models are expected to be the Maruti Ignis and Maruti Baleno RS, while the Swift family (Swift, Dzire and Ertiga) will jump to the next generation within the next two years. Cars like the Maruti Ciaz may undergo a facelift next year.

The report also states that Maruti is prepping their current as well future product range to meet upcoming safety regulations and emission norms. Most of Maruti's products already meet BS4 emission norms, while airbags are being made optional/standard in all products, so as to meet Bharat NCAP standards that will go into effect from 2019.

The Swift family (Swift, Dzire and Ertiga) will jump to the next generation within the next two years.

Maruti will also introduce new platforms for the future product portfolio. The new platforms will focus on better strength and crash protection levels, whilst being lightweight for better fuel efficiency. The Baleno is the first of Maruti's products to feature such a platform. The report also confirms that new technologies in lighting, interiors and exteriors will be introduced as well.
