The Maruti Ertiga's performance has blown us away. A three row MPV on the Swift platform that doesn't sound very catchy wasn't exactly going on to recreate the Swift's success story. We saw it going differently, but can we count out any launch from Maruti Suzuki?

We're expecting the unexpected when the SUV on the Swift underpinning (previewed by the XA Alpha Concept) is released in the next two years.

Responding to Indian Autos Blog's email, Mr. Shashank Srivastava, Executive Director, Maruti Suzuki wrote the company has received about 45,000 bookings for the Ertiga since the launch in early April.

The Ertiga is also making waves outside India. Indonesian Suzuki retailers are complaining that they are not allotted enough cars. A patent for the Ertiga has been filed in China hinting at an imminent launch. The new Swift platform is eager to explore the world as the Ertiga's sister model Dzire is available in countries in South America and Africa. The Swift itself is having the time of its life, sitting pretty at the top of the sales chart of the Indian auto market.

The Ertiga was presented as a concept at the 2010 Delhi Auto Expo and was brought to the market in April. Much of the car's work was by Indian engineers and a new petrol engine (1.4L K Series) saw the light of day through the Ertiga's launch.
