Maruti Suzuki S-Cross to soon receive a petrol-sipping heart - Report

Maruti Suzuki will discontinue all diesel models by March 2020. By the deadline, the company will introduce a petrol engine in not only the Vitara Brezza but also the S-Cross, as per a report from Autocar India.

The Maruti S-Cross was launched with Fiat-developed D13A 1.3-litre and D16AA 1.6-litre diesel engines in 2015. With the facelift in 2017, the bigger diesel engine was dropped, and till today, a petrol engine hasn't been offered. Maruti Suzuki has invested a lot of resources in its E15A 1.5-litre diesel engine it introduced in the Ciaz last month, and so, despite the plan to withdraw it from the market by March 2020, it will expand its availability to the S-Cross.

FY2020 (April 2019-March 2020) will see the introduction of a petrol engine also in the Maruti S-Cross. It will be the K15B 1.5-litre unit that produces 104.7 PS and 138 Nm of torque in the Ertiga and Ciaz. The naturally aspirated petrol engine will be offered with the dual-battery Progressive Smart Hybrid mild-hybrid system. Transmission choices should include 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic.

Internationally, Suzuki offers the S-Cross with the older M15A 1.5-litre naturally aspirated and the K10C 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engines as well. In fact, the S-Cross made in India is exported with the former.

The K15B petrol engine is yet to be upgraded to meet BS-VI emission norms. It will likely be introduced in the Maruti S-Cross directly in the BS-VI version.
