Maruti Swift Range Extender with 48.2 km/l spotted on Indian streets - Spied

Was first showcased at the Auto Expo 2014.

These images show the Maruti Swift Range Extender on Indian streets, just about to enter Maruti's factory, reports Gaadi.com. Our guess is that Maruti brought out these vehicles for the FAME India Eco Drive 2015, on the occasion of World Environment Day (June 5, 2015), though the company has not issued a statement on this.

The Swift Range Extender has a pure electric range of 25.5 km.

Power for the Swift Range Extender comes from a three-cylinder 658 cc petrol engine paired to a permanent magnet synchronous motor. The hatchback develops 73 hp, and gets a single-speed automatic transmission, though internal tests pit its fuel efficiency at 48.2 km/l (for reference, the BMW i8 - one of the most fuel efficient cars in India and across the world - delivers 47.45 km/l).

The Swift Range Extender can be driven on pure electric mode for 25.5 km. Its batteries can be recharged through a 200V socket, and it takes 1.5 hours to fully charge them. The hatchback tips the scales at 1,600 kg.

The Range Extender is powered by a three-cylinder petrol engine.
