IAB Report - India-made Maruti Swift ZXi crash tested by Global NCAP
Following up the crash tests of popular Indian cars, Global NCAP have crash tested an India-made Maruti Swift ZXi (top-end petrol variant). As with other cars, the crash test car was a stock vehicle, what consumers buy in the any dealership in India.
With the VW Polo, the test authority chose to crash a version without airbags (base variant) and one with airbags. With other cars like the Figo and i10, the base model without airbags was selected for the test. So why did the Swift get the privilege of being tested with airbags?
The India-made Swift is also exported to several Latin American markets. In these markets, the Swift is available with dual front airbags as standard fitment. Since the test conducted here is also a reflection of the Swift's Latin NCAP score, the car chosen was the top-end ZXi model.
To recap, earlier this year Global NCAP announced the crash test results for the India-made Ford Figo, VW Polo, Hyundai i10, Maruti Alto 800 and Tata Nano. All these cars received a rating of 0/5 stars for crash protection. The Polo equipped with driver and passenger airbags scored 4/5 stars.
The result of the Swift's crash test will be announced in May this year.
