Report - Maruti to launch 2 compact SUVs by 2016

The SX4 S-Cross will come next year while the XA Alpha would be ready by 2016.

Autocarpro.in reports that, according to Mr. R.C. Bhargava, Chairman, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd., the automaker will launch two new SUVs by the first half of 2016.

The first SUV to hit the market would be the Maruti SX4 S-Cross which is out testing in India. The compact crossover would have the likes of Renault Duster and Nissan Terrano it its crosshairs. The crossover is expected to available with petrol and diesel engines. The market launch is expected in early 2015.

The second SUV is mostly likely to be the Maruti XA Alpha which was first previewed by the concept at the 2012 Auto Expo. The technical details are scarce but the dimensions indicate that the production version would be a sub-4 metre product taking the game straight towards the Ford EcoSport and VW Taigun which is expected to launch by then.

The XA Alpha is expected to hit the market by the first half of 2016.

Maruti already has suitable petrol and diesel powertrains at its disposal for the XA Alpha.
