Definitely considering AMT for Maruti Vitara Brezza, says CV Raman - Report
At launch, only a 5-speed manual gearbox will be available.
Speaking to Overdrive, executive director of engineering at MSIL, Mr. CV Raman, stated that the option of an Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) for the Maruti Vitara Brezza is being considered. It could be introduced later in its lifecycle, if approved.
Given that the demand for diesel automatic SUVs are on the rise, and that AMT-kit supplier Magneti Marelli has set up a manufacturing plant in India, an AMT option in the Vitara Brezza could be inevitable. Currently, the only sub-4m SUV in the segment to offer an AMT option is the Mahindra TUV300. The larger Renault Duster will be launched with an AMT next month.
The only engine option will be the familiar 1.3-liter DDiS diesel four-cylinder engine capable of 90 PS at 4,000 rpm and 200 Nm of torque at 1,750 rpm, mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.
