Maruti Vitara Brezza is the best-selling UV in India
Takes the title away from the Mahindra Bolero.
The Maruti Vitara Brezza continues its show of dominance in the UV segment, registering a sales figure of 1,08,640 units in FY 2017. It has taken the title of 'top selling UV' from the Mahindra Bolero, which witnessed a decrease in demand by 15% y-o-y to 69,328 units.
For a maiden attempt at an SUV, Maruti seems to have nailed it as the Vitara Brezza has garnered overwhelming demand from customers buying their first SUV or upgrading from a compact hatchback/sedan. From April 2016 - March 2017, Maruti's utility vehicle segment registered a staggering 107 percent growth courtesy of the Vitara Brezza, and this is despite it being only available with a 1.3L DDiS motor and a 5-speed manual gearbox.
Earlier this month, Maruti divulged that it had sold 110,000 units of the Vitara Brezza, while there were more than 80,000 bookings to fulfil, which explains the waiting period of 6 months the VDI and ZDI variants. Maruti's executive director of sales and marketing, R.S Kalsi, has reassured that they're putting in best efforts to improve their availability and minimise wait time for customers.
Once the demand starts to stabilise, Maruti could introduce diesel automatic and petrol variants, so as to appeal to new customer segments. Currently, the Vitara Brezza diesel manual (sole variant) is priced between INR 7.26 Lakhs - 9.92 Lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi). Maruti's comprehensive sales and service network, excellent resale value promise and competitive pricing are the real factors to its overwhelming success in India.
To increase its market share globally, Suzuki will also export the Vitara Brezza to markets like Indonesia, Middle East, Africa and Latin America soon.
