Maruti studying GDI petrol for Vitara Brezza - Report
For now, only a diesel engine is confirmed.
In an interview with AutoCar Professional, C.V Raman, executive director at MSIL's (Maruti Suzuki India Ltd.) engineering division confirms that Maruti is looking for an appropriate petrol engine for the Vitara Brezza. For now, only a diesel engine is confirmed.
To receive the tax benefits of a sub-4m vehicle, the Vitara Brezza should have a petrol engine displacing under 1,200cc. Currently, Maruti employs their own K12B 1.2-liter petrol engine with VVT for the sub-4m options, and will introduce a smaller-yet-more-powerful 1.0-liter Boosterjet engine in the Maruti Baleno RS this year. As of now, it's unclear which petrol engine will make its way under the hood of the Vitara Brezza.
The diesel engine confirmed for the sub-4m SUV is the familiar 1.3-liter DDiS diesel four-cylinder engine capable of 90 PS at 4,000 rpm and 200 Nm of torque at 1,750 rpm, mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.
