Maruti Vitara Brezza gets 4-star Global NCAP rating

Just a month after the Tata Nexon, Global NCAP put the Maruti Vitara Brezza through crash tests as a part of its #SaferCarsForIndia campaign. It has given this model also a 4-star rating.

The Maruti Vitara Brezza is India's best-selling SUV currently.

Global NCAP has given the Maruti Vitara Brezza a score of 12.51 out of 17.00 in adult occupant safety and 17.93 out of 49 in child occupant safety. This equates to 5-star and 4-star safety rating in adult occupant safety and child occupant safety respectively.

The crash testing was done at a speed of 64 km/h. The bodyshell was rated as stable, and it was capable of withstanding further loadings. The safety agency says that the poor rating in child occupant safety was due to the forward facing positioning of the 18-month-old dummy in the test, though the 3-year-old dummy received good protection. The marking for the ISOFIX anchorages was also incorrect according to the testing protocols.

The Maruti Vitara Brezza may not have performed this well in the crash tests, if not for the MY2018 update that was rolled out this May. It received a number of safety updates with the minor model change.

ISOFIX child-seat restraints and high-speed alert were introduced to the B-SUV. Dual-front airbags, ABS with EBD and seatbelts with pre-tensioner and force limiter were made standard. Side body airbags, side head airbags and driver knee airbag aren’t available. The same is the case for the Tata Nexon. The Ford EcoSport is available with side and curtain airbags, though.

The Maruti Vitara Brezza offers good adult occupant protection.
