Maruti Vitara Brezza to launch in Indonesia this year - Report

Will be among the first export markets.

PT Suzuki Indomobil Sales' Deputy Managing Director, Davy J. Tuilan, had earlier confirmed that three new products will be introduced in Indonesia this year. Though he did not give names, one of them is reported by the local media as being the Maruti Vitara Brezza (or Suzuki Vitara Brezza, as it would be called in the archipelago).

Suzuki will have to offer a petrol variant of the Vitara Brezza to make it relevant in Indonesia.

Indonesia will be one of the first markets to get Maruti's sub-4m compact SUV, which is a runaway success in its home market of India. However, given that petrol-powered cars dominate Indonesia, Suzuki will have to offer a K-Series or a Boosterjet on the Vitara Brezza to appeal to the mass market.

Currently, the Vitara Brezza is only available with a 1.3L DDiS diesel engine that produces 90 PS and 200 Nm of torque. Later this year, Maruti is planning to introduce a petrol variant of the sub-4m SUV that is reported to pack the all new 1.0-liter Boosterjet engine paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox. If the reports turn out to be true, this is likely to be the variant that will be exported to Indonesia and other gasoline-dominant markets.

For India, Maruti is reportedly planning a petrol variant of the sub-4m SUV packing the all new 1.0-liter Boosterjet engine.

The Suzuki Vitara Brezza will join the bigger but older Suzuki Grand Vitara in their SUV lineup, and rival compact SUVs like the Honda HR-V, Ford EcoSport and Chevrolet Trax.
