"No need of SHVS" in Maruti Vitara Brezza, says R&D head - IAB Report
Most fuel efficient compact SUV.
The Maruti Vitara Brezza powered by the 1.3-liter DDiS diesel engine is claimed to offer class-leading fuel economy of 24.3 km/l. This puts it ahead of other sub-4 meter compact SUVs like the Ford EcoSport and Mahindra TUV300, and makes it more efficient than products like the Renault Duster, Hyundai Creta and Maruti S-Cross too.
ArrayThe diesel engine is tuned to produce 90 PS and 200 Nm of torque on the Vitara Brezza. The same engine in the same state of tune also powers the Maruti Ertiga and Maruti Ciaz, however, these cars get the added 'SHVS' (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki) micro-hybrid technology for increased fuel efficiency.
When asked about the introduction of the SHVS on the Vitara Brezza, Mr. C.V. Raman, executive director, engineering, Maruti-Suzuki, told Indian Autos Blog -
There's no need of SHVS actually. It has a class-leading fuel efficiency. If the need arises, it can be easily installed. Also read: Maruti Celerio diesel - Review Interestingly, the top two fuel efficient utility vehicles are Maruti products: the Vitara Brezza (24.3 km/l) and the Maruti S-Cross 1.3 (23.65 km/l).
