Maruti Vitara Brezza sub-4m SUV's first teaser image released - IAB Report

The Ford EcoSport rival will get its engines from the Swift.

Maruti Suzuki today confirmed the name, and released the first teaser image of their sub-4 meter SUV, the Maruti Vitara Brezza. The car maker confirmed its reveal for the Auto Expo 2016 next month, and said that the market launch will take place a few weeks after the biennial event. International readers should note that the Vitara Brezza has no relationship to the larger Suzuki Vitara or the Suzuki Grand Vitara.

The Maruti Vitara Brezza is expected to be sold through regular Maruti dealerships and not the NEXA outlets.

'Brezza' is Italian for 'fresh breeze', the car maker said in a statement, while the Vitara nameplate is derived from Suzuki's popular SUV available in global markets. Some of the design highlights of the Vitara Brezza include square wheel arches, a high ground clearance, short overhangs, an upright hood and a floating roof effect.

As reported by Indian Autos Blog last year, the Vitara Brezza will be powered by petrol and diesel engines borrowed from the Maruti Swift family. The petrol unit will be the 1.2-liter K-Series engine while the diesel engine will be the Fiat-derived MultiJet 1.3-liter unit. Both engines will be paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard.

Interior spyshot of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza shows it having a multi-function steering wheel, central touchscreen and auto climate control.

The Suzuki Vitara Brezza's interior will make use of a new design for its center console though parts and components will be shared with the Swift-series of cars. Expect ABS, EBD and dual front airbags to be offered on all variants as part of the carmaker's increased focus on safety.
