Maruti's Gujarat plant to roll out 7-seater Wagon R from Jan 2017 - Report

New Wagon R will also get a diesel-powered variant.

Maruti's upcoming facility in Gujarat may have not gotten off to the best start. The car maker says that it will make a better business case if parent Suzuki were to invest in this plant, whereas shareholders of Maruti believe that this will not be in the company's best long term interests.

The three-row 7-seat Wagon R was shown at the 2013 IIMS.

Despite this, the construction of the plant has already started and according to a report on the Economic Times, the first car to roll out of this plant will be the next generation Maruti Wagon R codenamed 'YCA'. As reported earlier, the next gen Wagon R will not only benefit from a diesel variant, but will also have a 7-seater option with an added third row bench.

As readers may be aware, Suzuki already showcased a pre-production prototype of a 7-seat Wagon R on the current generation model at the 2013 edition of the Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS). The compact MPV will rival the Datsun Go+, which goes on sale in India on January 15, 2015.
