Maruti YBA sub-4 meter compact SUV - Spied

Expected to launch in 2016.

Maruti Suzuki's next set of launches will include a compact SUV, codenamed 'YBA'. It is expected to feature a design inspired by the XA-Alpha concept and the new Vitara SUV. The vehicle, a rendering of which was published recently, has been spotted again.

Codenamed YBA, the compact SUV will rival the Ford EcoSport.

Caught testing by GaadiWaadi.com, the YBA is covered under heavy camouflage, with only the silhouette and rear view mirrors being visible. The glasshouse appears similar to that of the XA-Alpha concept shown at the 2012 Auto Expo but isn't as tapered towards the rear window.

The vehicle will have both petrol and diesel engine options, with the latter being a 1.5-litre unit, as reported earlier. And unlike most other crossovers, Maruti will offer the compact SUV with an optional all-wheel drive system, while the regular version will be front-wheel drive, reports say.

In terms of design, the YBA has bits of XA-Alpha (pictured here) in it.

It will be the second crossover in the company's lineup after the SX4 S-Cross, which is expected to arrive next year.
