The next generation Maruti SX4, which is codenamed the 'YL1', was spotted testing recently by a Motorbash reader in New Delhi. As our readers would be aware, the YL1's styling is largely inspired by the Suzuki Authentics concept which was shown in April this year at the Auto Shanghai 2013.

The YL1 is inspired by the Suzuki Authentics concept which was shown at the 2013 Auto Shanghai.

While the SX4 still offers a decent bunch of features (when it was launched in 2007, it was offered with first-in-class features such as steering mounted controls, 16-inch alloy wheels, an antenna embedded on the rear windscreen, etc), competitors such as the Verna, Vento and Rapid offer better build quality and roomier interiors in addition to extensive features. Based on spyshots, the YL1 seems to be larger than the current SX4 and we hope Maruti sorts the build quality on the car.

Currently, the SX4 is offered with a petrol and a diesel engine option. The petrol SX4 is powered by the aging 1.6-liter VVT engine while the diesel is powered by the familiar 1.3-liter Fiat MultiJet engine, and is offered in the 90 PS state of tune. Maruti also offers a 4-speed autobox on the petrol variant.

While the YL1 will continue using Fiat's MultiJet diesel engine, the petrol variant could use the 1.4-liter K-Series motor which is seen on the Ertiga. A 5-speed manual transmission will be available on both engines, and the 1.4 petrol could also get a 4-speed automatic unit.

Expect to see the YL1 at the upcoming Auto Expo.

We expect to see the Maruti YL1 at the upcoming Auto Expo in February 2014. The YL1 will have its chief rival in the all-new Honda City, which has its global unveiling on the 25th of this month in New Delhi.
