Here's a rendering of the upcoming Mazda CX-3 crossover made by our artist Shoeb. This rendering is based on the Mazda Hazumi concept shown at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year.

The CX-3 will be based on the larger CX-5's SkyActiv platform, as will the next generation Mazda2 hatchback. The design of the CX-3 will be crossover like, with exterior design elements coming in the form of black side mouldings, front and rear skid guards and a slightly increased ground clearance.

The Mazda CX-3 will rival crossovers Ford EcoSport, Renault Duster and Nissan Juke.

Though technical details of the car remain unavailable, media reports claim that the CX-3 would get a torsion beam suspension at the rear to keep the costs under check. Engine options are expected to include 1.5-liter petrol and diesel engines coupled to 6-speed manual and automatic gearboxes.

The CX-3 from Mazda will compete with the likes of the Ford EcoSport, Renault Duster, Peugeot 2008, Opel Mokka and Nissan Juke. Initial markets for the crossover would include Europe, USA and Japan, where Mazda sees most of its sales.

The CX-3 could also be offered as an entry-level crossover in the Australian market and is expected to be unveiled next year.
