Mazda will evaluate selling CX-4 outside China – Report
China an experimental market for the coupe-styled crossover.
At Auto China 2016 (2016 Beijing Motor Show) next week, Mazda will unveil the Mazda CX-4 crossover in production form. Although shown in a conceptual form as the Mazda Koeru Concept at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show (2015 IAA) in Germany, indicating a possible European launch, the CX-4 will be a China-only model, at least initially.
Speaking to Drive, Yuji Nakamine, Director and Senior Managing Executive Officer, Mazda, revealed that the company hasn't planned a global launch of the CX-4 just yet.
"At this moment, we are studying the possibility of introducing CX-4 type of vehicles in other markets. The possibility is there, but at the moment we don't plan to sell this vehicle outside of China." Limited production capacity and engineering resources, and maybe the doubtful acceptance of such coupe-styled, less practical small crossovers in other markets are the factors refraining Mazda from introducing the CX-4 globally. If and when Mazda comes to conclusion that there is enough demand for such crossovers in the other markets, the CX-4 may be launched globally.

The Mazda CX-4's exterior design follows the company's KODO-Soul of Motion design language. LED headlamps, roof rails, 19-inch alloy wheels, LED taillamps, dual exhaust pipes, roof spoiler and shark fin antenna are some of the notable exterior features known for now. Inside, the CX-4 is equipped with advanced features like Active Driving Display (head-up display), Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) with Auto Hold function and MZD Connect infotainment system with a 7-inch display.
Chinese media reports say that the Mazda CX-4 will be available with 158 hp (116 kW) 2.0-litre and 192 hp (141 kW) 2.5-litre engines, which presumably will be petrol units.
