Should debut at the 2016 Beijing Auto Show.

The upcoming Mazda CX-4, the production version of the Mazda Koeru Concept from the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show (2015 IAA), has been spied completely undisguised in China. The spy shots, courtesy PCauto.com.cn, fully reveal the exterior and interior of the CX-4.

The Mazda CX-4 is expected to be offered with 2.0-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engine choices.

Save for the toned-down styling, the CX-4 looks very close to the concept. The headlamps, bumpers, fenders, wheels, mirrors, tail lamps and the tailgate, all have been tweaked for mass production.

Inside, the Mazda CX-4 is reminiscent of the 2016 Mazda CX-9 and the Mazda CX-3. The dashboard, centre console and centre tunnel remind of the CX-9, while the steering wheel and instrument panel seem to have been borrowed from the CX-3. The Mazda Connect infotainment system expected to be offered in the CX-4 will have a rotary selector for various functions.

The Mazda CX-4 could be offered with the 2.0-litre SKYACTIV-G petrol engine from the CX-5 and the 1.5-litre SKYACTIV-D diesel engine from the CX-3. Transmission choices should include 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic. The crossover would be positioned between the CX-3 and the CX-5, as a sportier offering than the latter but with more practicality than the former.

The Mazda CX-4 is expected to debut at the 2016 Beijing Auto Show in April and be launched in markets outside China in H2 2016.
