IAB Report - 1,000 PS McLaren P1 GTR to be built in strictly limited numbers

The power output is pumped up to 1,000 PS (986 bhp)

McLaren claims that their new track monster, the McLaren P1 GTR, is the "best driver's car in the world on a track", a title held by many famous analogous supercars like its own predecessor, the F1 GTR.

The McLaren P1 GTR will be built only in limited numbers.

Unveiled as a design concept at the 2014 Pebble Beach, the McLaren P1 GTR features a host of changes over the standard road-legal P1. Since no regulations are required to be followed, the P1 GTR will feature a more aggressive body design that promises increased aerodynamic efficiency and effective directing of air for cooling purposes.

The front track is increased by 80 mm while the ride height is fixed to a level lower than the standard P1. The body is supported by a race-prepared version of the kinetic suspension system (or as McLaren calls it, "Proactive Chassis Control"), as well as a beefy set of slick tires with 19-inch rims.

The track-only P1 GTR sits lower than the road going version and has several additional aerodynamic elements.

At the rear, it features a larger-than-life ftwin-element fixed rear wing that also comes fitted with a hydraulically operated DRS. Like Formula One cars, the P1 GTR comes with an exhaust system made from alloys like Inconel and Titanium, so as to to retain strength while dissipating exhaust gases at very high temperatures.

Under the hood, the P1 GTR will be powered by the motorsport-spec M838T 3.8-liter twin turbo V8 engine that works in conjunction with a pair of electric motors. McLaren has tweaked the hybrid powertrain to produce an overall power output of 1000 PS (986 bhp), up from 916 PS (903 bhp) in the P1.

The price tag is close to 2 million pounds

The P1 GTR will be built by the company's MSO (McLaren Special Operations) division in strictly limited numbers, and production will commence once the 375th and final P1 is complete. Each example would be sold for a whopping 1.98 million GBP (INR 20.18 cr), and it is said that only P1 owners are eligible to book one.

The eye-watering price tag not only covers the car but also a new bespoke driving program where owners can benefit from specialist driver training and access to McLaren's race simulator.
