IAB Report - Entry level McLaren Sport Series (Codename P13) teased

Will take on the likes of the Porsche 911.

McLaren has teased its new entry level model which will be positioned below the 650S. Called the McLaren Sport Series, the new model (internally referred to as P13) marks the British supercar maker's entry into the sportscar segment. A single teaser image of a disguised test mule has been released.

The brand has also announced an extensive launch campaign which will plot the "game changing" history around the world and within McLaren over 13 chapters, titled 'Black Swan' moments. These promotional videos will tell stories that have truly changed and challenged people’s beliefs.

The McLaren Sport Series is expected to inherit its 3.8-litre V8 engine from the 650S.

Without revealing much about its first sportscar, McLaren says that the product would be built on the credentials of the P1 hypercar and 650S while bringing F1 technologies to the segment. A carbon fibre chassis and a mid-mounted V8 engine have been confirmed to be featured in the new Sport Series.

The familiar 3.8-litre V8 motor is most likely to be the engine of choice. Like the 650S, the new model is expected to be available in Coupe and Spider body styles. The McLaren Sports Series will be making its global premiere in the second quarter of 2015.
