The GL facelift, apart from the following the new variant nomenclature, will receive minor interior and exterior changes for its mid-life facelift. Going by the location of the camouflage, the headlights are expected to switch to Multibeam LED units. Other changes to the face will be a new twin-slat grille and reworked hood. The side profile remains unchanged while the rear gets slightly modified tail lights and redesigned dual exhausts.

Though this camouflage is a bluff, changes would include a front bumper with larger intakes and the switch to Multibeam LED headlights.

The interior has not been spied yet but some transfers from the cabin of the GLE are predicted. That means a standalone COMAND infotainment system, revised center console, redesigned steering wheel and fresh interior colour schemes.

The powertrains are unlikely to see changes. The diesel variants will be powered by the 3.0-litre V6 while the petrol variants will use a 3.0-litre V6 twin-turbo unit, a 4.7-litre V8 twin-turbo unit and the range topping 5.5-litre V8 twin-turbo unit. Transmission choices will be 7G-Tronic 7-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters while the top-end 5.5-litre V8 twin-turbo AMG variant will come with the AMG Speedshift Plus 7G-Tronic 7-speed automatic transmission.

It is not confirmed yet whether the 9G-Tronic 9-speed automatic transmission will be offered while the ‘Maybach’ version with a stretched wheelbase is not in the running until the launch of the next generation model, closer to 2020.

There are no changes anticipated to the powertrain lineup, with the V6 and V8 engines set to continue.
