India-bound Mercedes AMG GT showcased at Seoul Motor Show 2015 - IAB Report

Offered in two flavors with a newly-developed V8 engine.

Mercedes-Benz showcased the AMG GT at the Seoul Motor Show 2015. Having received its public debut at the Paris Motor Show last year, the Porsche 911 rival is set to make inroads in the Indian market later this year.

The version showcased in Seoul is the more powerful AMG GT S, which is identified by its fixed rear wing. Power comes from an all-new 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 capable of 510 PS and 650 Nm of torque. Mercedes will also offer a 'less powerful' version of this engine, which makes 462 PS and 600 Nm of torque.

Both versions send drive to the rear wheels via an AMG SPEEDSHIFT 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. The extra 48 PS of the GT S helps it post a top-speed of 310 km/h (the regular AMG GT does 304 km/h), and accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 3.8 seconds (the normal AMG GT is 0.2 seconds slower).

Engineers have crafted the AMG GT on an aluminium spaceframe with a weight bias of 53 percent at the rear. The body shell of the AMG GT weighs a mere 231 kg, hence helping an overall kerb weight of only 1,540 kg.

When launched in India, the AMG GT is expected to be priced in the region of INR 1.5-1.75 crores, ex-Showroom. It will compete with sportscars like the Jaguar F-Type and the Porsche 911, and on price, the new Audi R8.
