IAB Report - First details of the Mercedes AMG GT's engine released

Mercedes AMG have shared the technical data of the AMG GT sportscar's M178 engine, which would benefit other future AMG models starting with the next generation C63 AMG.

Launching at the Paris Motor Show this year, the F-Type rival gets a 3,982 cc V8 engine that delivers 510 hp @ 6,250 rpm and 650 Nm of torque @ 4,750 rpm. The maximum engine speed is limited to 7,200 rpm.

Future AMG models starting with the successor to the C63 AMG would use the AMG GT's V8.

With a bore x stroke of 83.0 x 92.0 mm, the engine weighs 209 kg (dry weight) and complies to Euro 6 emission standards.

The bi-turbo engine features zirconium coated cylinder heads, Aluminium-forged pistons, active engine mounts, low-friction four-groove belt, high-pressure fuel pump with up to 200 bar pressure and a dual mass flywheel.

The AMG GT launches at the Paris Motor Show this year.

Mercedes India sold the SLS AMG from 2010 and complemented it with the convertible version in 2012. As a halo car, the AMG GT could role play as a brand strengthening tool, and drive traffic to standalone AMG dealerships planned in major metros in the next year.
