Mercedes Viano successor gets S Class-like headlights; coming in 2014

The Mercedes Benz Viano is the second generation passenger van from the German car maker. The first generation model, which was called the Mercedes Vito, was phased out in 2003. Though we use the phrase 'phased out', we must tell you that this 90's van will be brought to India in 2015 and will be sold with a Force Motors badge on it.

Getting back to the Viano, it was introduced in 2004 and subsequently got facelifted in 2010. Mercedes will be replacing the Viano with a next generation model and early reports indicate that it would happen in 2014. The new Viano has already commenced testing with prototypes being spied on the European roads.

Now, our friends at MB Passion Blog have gotten their hands on what they say are the official design sketches of the next generation Viano. Straightaway, you notice the headlights which are in tune with Mercedes' new design language seen on the 2014 S Class and the CLA.

The overall 'van shape' of the Viano will continue as it is meant to be a comfortable people carrier. However, MB Passion reports that the new Viano will also fill in for the R Class, which reportedly wouldn't graduate to second generation due to the poor sales and non existent demand for a luxurious, stylish and expensive MPV.

The new Viano is expected for a 2014 launch with a diesel engine in at least three states of tune. The 7-speed 7G TRONIC gearbox would be paired with this engine.
