Mercedes Benz Malaysia quietly launches new C Class entry variant, C180

Mercedes Benz Malaysia launched a new variant of C Class called C 180 BlueEfficiency in a quiet fashion. The car popped up in the company's website without any warning.

The C 180 will be sold along with the C 200 and C 250 CGI variants and, as in India, are assembled locally in Malaysia.

The C 180 misses out on features such as speed-sensitive steering, bi-xenon headlamps and rear-screen electric roller blind. However it retains ECO start/stop technology and the damper setup found on the C 200 Elegance variant.

On the interior front, the car features a black or grey colour theme, with Artico leather upholstery and piano black trim. The C180 uses 17-inch five-double-spoke alloy wheels like the rest of the range.

The C 180 employs a turbocharged M271 DEH engine that produces 156 hp at 5,000 rpm and 250 Nm at 1,600-4,200 rpm. Power is controlled via a 7G-Tronic seven-speed transmission.

The C 180 can sprint from 0-100 km/h in 8.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 223 km/h. It is priced in Malaysia at Rs 40.5 lakhs, which is a whopping 6.2 lakhs cheaper than the C 200 CGI version.

Will Mercedes India follow its Malaysian counterpart's strategy of launching a corporate edition model? Can it help them add to the volumes?
