Mercedes C-Class facelift to be launched in India in October 2018 - Report

Earlier this year in February, the Mercedes C-Class facelift was unveiled. In March, it was confirmed that the updated model will arrive in India by the end of this year. As per a new report from Autocar India, the 2019 Mercedes-Benz C-Class India launch will take place in October.

The Mercedes C-Class facelift will be offered in three variants - C 200, C 220d, and C 300d.

The facelift brings with cosmetic updates in the form of a redesigned front and rear bumpers, new tail lamps with an LED C-motif, new Multibeam LED headlamps and new alloy wheels. Inside, the most prominent change is the inclusion of a 12.3-inch HD virtual instrument cluster. However, this feature could be optional. There's a bigger display for the COMAND infotainment system present. There will be a new steering wheel on offer with touch-sensitive trackpads like in the E-Class and S-Class.

The facelifted Mercedes C-Class features redesigned front bumper with either a silver trim strip, a chrome-plated trim strip or a three-part chrome strip, Multibeam LED headlamps with ultra range high beam, redesigned bumper with a new lower section and tweaked LED tail lamps with sharp C-shaped signature. The 2018 Mercedes C-Class AMG Line now features a diamond radiator grille as standard, an AMG front bumper with a new geometry and a newly designed rear diffuser.

Inside, the 2018 Mercedes C-Class adopts the display concept of the Mercedes S-Class. The mid-cycle refresh has brought a 12.3-inch HD virtual instrument cluster to the car, albeit as an option. Buyers will have the option to specify a new 10.25-inch central display for the COMAND infotainment system in the new model. There’s a new multifunction leather steering wheel with touch-sensitive buttons. New interior colours include magma grey/black and saddle brown (AMG Line).

Autocar reports that the petrol Mercedes C 200 will use the new 1.5 L turbocharged unit developing 184 hp and 280 Nm. The diesel variants will get the new OM654 mill that powers the Mercedes E220d. It will be offered in two states of tune. Mercedes C 220d outputs 194 hp and 400 Nm while the more potent C 300d, which replaces the 250d variant, will employ a twin-turbo version of the 2.0 L diesel developing 245 hp. There will be a 9-speed automatic transmission that will replace the current 7-speed unit.

The launch of the C-Class facelift will take place in October. Its rivals in India are the BMW 3-Series, Audi A4, Jaguar XE, and the Volvo S60.

Mercedes-Benz will bring the updated C-Cabriolet as well armed with a 3.0 L petrol engine with 258 hp and 370 Nm. The 2019 Mercedes-AMG C43 sedan will also be launched with a 3.0 L biturbo V6 producing 390 hp and 520 Nm. Autocar reports that Mercedes-AMG is considering coupe body forms of the C43 and C63 AMG for the Indian market as well.
