Mercedes India to launch E Class facelift in September
Mercedes started working on the E Class facelift in 2011. After a long gestation period, the car finally made its official debut at the 2013 Detroit Motor Show about two months ago.
Mercedes worked comprehensively to present a new design, new technologies, new features and engine improvements. BSMotoring reports today that the facelifted E Class is India-bound in September this year.
New front and rear fascias make the E Class look like an all-new model and not as just a mere facelift. The designers decided to part ways with the split headlamp design in favor of a single piece unit with LED treatment. The front grill is more pronounced, and accentuated by a sharply designed front bumper. The rear gets reprofiled LED taillamps and a new exhaust design.
The dashboard layout remains largely the same but the instrument cluster loses the two outer gauges. The dashboard gets a new centrally mounted analog clock, new steering wheel and improved COMAND system.
When it comes to the mechanicals, Mercedes is offering 18 engine-transmission combinations to customers depending on geographies, model type and variant.
It has plenty of safety features such as:
- DISTRONIC PLUS with Steering Assist
- Brake Assist system (BAS PLUS) with Cross-Traffic Assist
- PRE-SAFE Brake
- PRE-SAFE PLUS
- Active Lane Keeping Assist
- Active Blind Spot Assist
- Adaptive Highbeam Assist PLUS
- Active Parking Assist
- Surround View Camera for parking
The assembly of the facelifted E Class will carry on at Mercedes’s Chakan plant. India will keep its variant and engine lineup but all engines will get a new Eco (start-stop) mode with new shift programs that reduce emissions and improve efficiency.
Expect the facelift to be slightly more expensive than the current range.
