Mercedes EQC electric SUV could launch in India by end of 2019 - Report

In a report that cites Martin Schwenk, Managing Director and CEO, Mercedes Benz India, the Economic Times states that the luxury car maker could launch the Mercedes EQC by the year-end. The premium electric SUV made its public debut at the bygone Paris Motor Show and is based on a highly modified version of the Mercedes GLC's architecture.

The Mercedes EQC is the production version of the Mercedes Concept EQ that was unveiled at the 2016 Paris Motor Show.

Mercedes-Benz India has already introduced five BSVI-compliant models well ahead of the April 2020 deadline. Reportedly, it is considering a range of hybrid and electric models for the local market. It is even contemplating local assembly of the former. The Stuttgart-based company hopes its EVs will contribute to up to 25% of its global sales by 2025.

The Mercedes EQC showcases a futuristic version of the manufacturer's latest design philosophy. The front-end is characterised with a large nose cone that is flanked by a set of angular LED headlamps. At the rear, the stylish LED tail lamps are bridged by a sleek LED strip. Another highlight of the styling is the set of aerodynamically optimised, lightweight alloy wheels.

The talking point of the interior is a futuristic-looking dashboard that holds the E-Class-inspired instrument cluster and infotainment system. Powering the EQC are two electric motors positioned on each axle. The combined power/torque output of the setup has been rated at 402.14 hp/765 Nm. As per the manufacturer, the EQC can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 5 seconds, while its 80 kWh battery offers a driving range of 500 km on a single charge.

The Mercedes EQC is packed with the latest generation of the company's driving assistance systems, including Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC and a lane guidance system.

Speaking on the possibility of the localisation of the Mercedes EQC in India, Schwenk has said -

For localising, I would see hybrid as the first step because I think it has the higher market potential in the mid-term. So, if you look into the localisation of new electric vehicle I would think it’s in the hybrid area.
