Mercedes G 500 4×4² - Auto Expo 2016

Made only in left-hand drive.

First unveiled as a near-production concept at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show in March, the Mercedes G 500 4×4² was confirmed for production in June and went on sale in Germany for a price of €226,100 in September last year. The G 500 4×4², or the 'G-Class Squared', as Mercedes-Benz calls it, is sort of a four-wheeled version of the Mercedes-Benz G 63 AMG 6x6.

To make the extreme four-wheeled variant of the G-Class, the company simply took away the third axle and equipped the series-production SUV with a newly-developed variable chassis. Compared to the standard G-Class, the G-Class Squared has a 299 mm wider track. For making the classic SUV even more off-road capable, the ground clearance has been increased to 450 mm and the wading depth has been increased to 1,000 mm.

The Mercedes G 500 4×4² gets power from a new non-AMG 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine that develops 422 hp and 610 Nm of torque. Power is sent to 22-inch 325/55 R 22-sized wheels via a 7-speed automatic transmission. With this configuration, the “Extreme-G” can reach from 0-100 km/h in 7.4 seconds.

Like the Mercedes-Benz G 63 AMG 6x6, the Mercedes G 500 4×4² is available only in left-hand drive, and so, it cannot launch in India.
