Auto Shanghai 2013 Live - Mercedes GLA Concept checks in

The stylish Mercedes GLA Concept has been just unveiled at the Auto Shanghai 2013 and we bring you all the details and images live from the show floor.

The Mercedes GLA Concept previews the German car maker's all important compact crossover SUV which will go head on with the likes of the BMW X1, and the Audi Q3. The lack of such a product took a huge toll in Mercedes' sales performance globally but it appears that the luxury marque has checked all the boxes with the GLA.

For starters, the design of the car follows the standards set by the A Class and the CLA class and would appeal to the young customers worldwide. With the new range of cars, the company wants people to forget its 'old money' image.

The crossover measures at 4,383mm in length, 1,978mm in width and 1,579mm in height and sits on 20" alloy wheels. The SUV has a compact and well proportioned appearance.

The Mercedes GLA Concept has a dramatic front fascia with surplus supply of chrome. Mercedes says that the headlamps employ laser technology which not only provides better illumination but also can project pictures, movies on any given surface! The roof mounted lights also have HD camera's which can film in 3D as you drive by! That is a pure Hollywood stuff!

Sitting comfortably inside the bulging nose is a 2.0 litre four cylinder petrol engine which has 211 bhp in store. A 7G-DCT automatic transmission sends power to the wheels via the 4MATIC all wheel drive system.

The tastefully executed interior is a combination of leather and dark galvanized aluminium. The concept offers four individual seats which are finished in brown and grey natural leathers. An illuminated insert is set into the integrated head restraint of each of the four sports seats.

The aircon vents borrow their design from the A Class and are illuminated. The color of illumination varies according to the temperature set. A pop up touchscreen display on top of the center console supports the COMMAND Online multimedia infotainment system. The lid of the glove compartment boasts optic fiber lighting to add to the drama.

The production version of the Mercedes GLA is expected to borrow its powertrain options from its fellow MFA siblings, the A Class and the CLA Class. The real deal is expected to be in attendance at the Frankfurt Motor Show this September.
