Mercedes releases a sketch of the GLA Concept ahead of Shanghai debut

Mercedes Benz is about to showcase the conceptual version of its compact crossover, the GLA at the forthcoming Shanghai Auto show on Saturday, six months beforehand its world premiere in production form at Frankfurt.

Lately, the luxury manufacturer has revealed a sketch of the Mercedes GLA Concept on social media ahead of the show. Dubbed as the next big thing, the muscular GLA takes styling cues from the A-class and possesses an aggressive stance.

This model will be placed below the GLK in the line-up and is front-wheel driven. It will be based on the MFA platform. The SUV will have a length of 4,440mm, width of 1,800mm, and a height of 1,500mm. The wheelbase will be 2,700mm and the boot space will be a generous 500 litres.

A pair of petrol engines displacing 1.6L and 2.0L and a pair of diesel engines displacing 1.8L and 2.1L are on the cards. The new 4Matic all wheel drive system specially engineered for the MFA platform is expected to be offered in the GLA as well.

The GLA is a very important model for the Stuttgart based automaker as far as SUV loving countries like India are concerned. It will stand toe-to-toe against the likes of BMW X1 and Audi Q3. We can safely expect the GLA to be India bound once it meets the production line.
