IAB Report - Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe teased, AMG Sport range announced

To be positioned below the AMG-built models

Mercedes-Benz has announced a new performance range, called the AMG Sport range, that will sit below the AMG spec models and feature both mechanical and visual upgrades from AMG.

Mercedes AMG Sport range teaser with C Class and GLE
The SUV in the teaser appears to be the coupe variant of the M-Class facelift (Mercedes GLE Coupe).

Similar to BMW's M Performance (like the recently announced M235i) and Audi's S-Line (for instance the Audi S6), the models under the AMG Sport range will allow customers to enjoy the performance characteristics higher than the standard models but not as much as the full-fledged AMG variants.

Compared to standard variants, AMG Sport Mercs will have improved engine figures, Mercedes-Benz's 4MATIC all-wheel drive system as standard for some markets, chassis components and brakes from AMG, and a body kit that complements the upgraded internals.

As shown above, the Stuttgart-based brand will showcase the first two products that will debut the new performance range at the 2015 Detroit International Auto Show in January 2015. More models are expected to join the AMG Sport range eventually.

What is intriguing about the teaser posted is that the model next to the C-Class is an SUV that looks like it has a sloping roof, suggesting that it is the BMW X6 fighter - the Mercedes-Benz GLE - which was previewed by the Concept Coupe.
